Exposing children to different languages from an early age enhances their understanding of the world and boost their communication, cognitive development and self of self. Many of our Lifelong Learning Centres capture that sense of curiosity and love of learning, with integrated language classes offered as part of their weekly curriculum.
The benefits of learning another language
“Providing the opportunity for children to engage with different languages encourages children to pronounce unfamiliar sounds and learn about cultural diversity in a respectful way”, explained Lifelong Learning Centre’s Education Advisor, Jola Sung.
“Even if centers don’t have a specific language program integrated, multilingual action songs and welcome songs are often incorporated into daily routines.”
Learn about some the language programs on offer
Asilo Bilingual Childcare and Learning offer Italian classes as part of their Toddler and KIndergarten curriculum. Centre Manager, Fabiana Micozzi explained that their children benefit from the enhanced cognitive development, confidence and exceptional problem-solving skills as they switch between languages mentally.

Papilio Early Learning North Strathfield Blue Campus offers a flexible language program that is incorporated into everyday play and learning at the centre. Centre Manager, Sazia Rahiman listed the many languages they explore – including Hindi, Arabic, Mandain, Korean and Spanish.
“We believe that offering a second language gives young children the opportunity to explore and learn about different cultures and value diversity”.
Milestones Early Learning Aspley Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten children love their Spanish lessons! Families of the centre love the regular conversations with their children about diversity and understanding other cultures, traditions and values. Centre Manager, Ellise Mallet explained how the children love singing songs and counting in Spanish.
Promote exploration of language at home
Education Advisor, Natasha Perrins recommends incorporating action songs to expose children to language in an enjoyable way.
“By using actions when you speak or sing, it promotes cognitive functioning and helps your child to make the connections between word, sound and action”, Natasha explained.
“Make a point to celebrate diversity and language both spontaneously and intentionally – to provide plenty of opportunities to embrace and support language.”
